Georgetown Branch Transit/Railway Planning
Study to determine development options for the abandoned Georgetown Branch right-of-way procured by Montgomery County from the railroad company CSX. This 7 km corridor is a unique resource as it runs through major parks and natural resource areas and links the county’s two largest central business districts, Silver Spring and Bethesda, in the Washington, DC, Metropolitan Area. The study focused on exploring various transit options including a bus way and light rail to alleviate congestion on existing major roads, as well as developing a linear park with hiker/biker trail along the corridor. The final project consists of a 7 km single track with 6 stations.
