Earthquake Reconstruction
Assistance to the Government of Yemen for earthquake rehabilitation and reconstruction of 50 sites in the Dhamar region. SHELADIA surveyed damaged housing and other buildings to determine structures to be economically repaired or rebuilt. The team made recommendations on repair and reconstruction techniques to meet earthquake resistant standards. Taking into account local construction methods and available materials, the team identified and prepared estimates for the most cost-effective methods of repair and reconstruction. Comprehensive final reports were prepared, including recommendations to improve earthquake resistance of existing and future buildings, specifications and drawings to guide future construction, and special problems requiring further research.
