The 31,000 sq ft building houses a community service center besides the main MVA functions. Sheladia is responsible for renovation of this facility including reconfiguration of existing space layout, replacement of casework including finishes and upgrade of existing infrastructure. The renovated facility will include a training center. The existing roof will be evaluated and replaced if necessary with a new flat roof.

The project involved programming, space planning, interior design, and related mechanical and electrical work. The project, construction documents were developed in a fast track methodology concurrent with the construction of the shell and required close coordination with the developer.

Sheladia designed a contemporary high volume space that complimented the rural setting. This environmentally conscious design solution maximized use of natural light, two level lighting, thermal efficiency of building envelope by use of high R valve, cavity wall construction, low E glazing, sunscreens, use of light sources, electronic ballasts etc. The building materials were selected based on AIA environmental resource guide. Site improvements involved new automobile test course, additional parking, site drainage, landscaping and general upgrade of the existing parking lot.

The design developed involved enlarging the shaft to provide an atrium space with skylights and curved glass guardrails with elevated planters to provide an aesthetic and well lit core space. The work was designed to permit construction without any interruption to the fully occupied and functional office.

This project entails design and construction management of a new storied 9840 sq ft drivers service facility at the Maryland State Police Barracks in Westminister, MD. The scope also included sitework including new parking lot, drive aisles, landscaping, sediment and erosion control. The facility was designed in full compliance with ADA.
