The Crescent Lawn Project is one the most significant components of the plan as it integrates all the components. It includes five major sub-components:
- The Festival Grounds were the venue for various activities which provide large vistas and open spaces
- The Amphitheater is the focal point. It serves as a meeting place for 100-200 spectators and a starting/resting area for visitors, and dictate the overall circulation design.
- Exhibit Areas detail the area’s history and rich heritage to address one of the key goals: education. Canal Place is a prime destination for schools throughout the region.
- Three Buildings on the site are: a museum; ADA compliant restrooms and tenant space; and ticketing area with offices, storage and gift shops.
- The Basin Plaza is the prime location for canal-related exhibits and displays and the staging area for canal boat rides.
Sheladia is responsible for implementation of the master plan; sensitive historical analysis to showcase the area’s rich historic heritage for recreation, tourism and economic development; sensitive environmental analysis to promote green architecture. The building design utilizes green products, including the use of certified wood products for the primary framing. We developed the building envelope utilizing Department of Energy’s COM check software that exceeds ASHRAE standards for energy conservation.
