Sheladia’s experience ranges from new construction and comprehensive renovation to general upgrading and repair of a broad range of institutional building types for various clients including the University of Maryland, George Mason University, Morgan State University, Bloomsburg University, City of Baltimore Public Schools, and Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.


George Mason University Parking Facility

The project consists of an extension to an existing 6 level parking structure. The expansion added approximately 91,000 sq. ft. of area, and over 300 new parking spaces.
The project included:

  • Structural precast concrete units consisting of columns, beams, spandrel beams, shear walls, double tee-floor slabs,
  • Brick veneers,
  • Dry fire suppression system,
  • Ventilation system,
  • Lighting, etc.
  • A network of conduits for fiber optic cables for closed circuit television camera security system, security call box system and telecommunications was also provided.
  • The site work involved grading of the area adjacent to the expansion, widening of entrance access roads,
  • Relocation of ticket booths to outside the garage,
  • The addition of a stairwell/elevator tower with a handicapped-accessible route to Pohick Lane,
  • Extensive landscaping. The surface runoff and foundation drainage from the expansion area is collected in a closed stormdrain system.
  • The wetland area lying southwest of the garage presented a significant constraint in the expansion and construction work areas.
  • Sheladia provided design and construction management services.
