Technical assistance project to formulate the following policies: promotion of foreign trade in foodgrains to support continued strong production growth; expansion of private sector abilities in storage, distribution, and trade in foodgrains; maintenance of price stability; and rationalization of foodgrain and food aid management operations.
- Development of a computerized MIS foodgrain model and database, including rice export/wheat import subsectors, and stock interactions with government foodgrain activities
- Food security stock analysis, using alternative policy objectives to estimate optimum public food security stock, using above model
- Analysis of economic and financial effects of market (price) stabilization scheme based on liberal trade (international price alignment) and tariff/tax options and recommendations on domestic market stabilization policies
- Training of the Food Policy Monitoring Unit staff in all foodgrain commodity analysis models.
In addition, SHELADIA participated in a foodgrain management seminar of senior international experts and present the results of the foodgrain commodity analysis component of the project.
